Mold Removal - Kansas City MO | Certified Water & Mold Restoration - May_29_0621_300x199General Information About Mold

Molds are always present in our natural environment, but they can pose health risks when elevated levels are found. There are many types of toxic molds which have the potential to be detrimental to your health and safety. Mold spores are lightweight and spread by air currents. If spores land on a suitable surface, they will begin to grow. In order to thrive, mold requires three things: water, organic materials, and optimum temperature (between 40 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit). When molds find this optimal growing environment, they can also cause structural damage to ceilings, walls, flooring, basements, crawl spaces and more. Prolonged exposure to these types of mold present health risks which may include – but are not limited to: headaches, persistent coughing, wheezing, and flu like symptoms. More severe health risks can affect the immune system, nervous system, liver, kidneys, blood, and cause brain damage.

Basement MoldFirst and foremost, to stop the growth of mold, it is important to find and stop the water/moisture concern. Mold spores will not grow if moisture is not present. Indoor mold can, and should be prevented or controlled by eliminating moisture. Look for evidence of water penetrating the house by locating water stains or moist areas and fix the water source. Common leaks may come from foundation cracks, improperly sealed windows, a damaged toilet seal, sink plumbing, ice machine lines, or bathtub drains.
Additionally, check the HVAC systems’ condensation lines for any leaks and to see if they are properly insulated. Ensure that a clothes dryer is vented outside, gutters are cleaned regularly, and install bathroom vent fans if your home is not equipped with them.
